The debate of the decade has been a battle between which is the best? Is it Apple? Is it Android and Windows?
File Transfer
When is comes to tranferring files from your phone tablet to your laptop or PC there are a few different ways that it can be done depending n what device you can use.
Personally I don't like transferring files using a cable. I think its old fashioned and something that should in the past, with that said lets look at transferring files wirelessly.
For Apple Users
Apple users can take advantage of the Airplay feature which can transfer over 10GB of data in less than five minutes from your iPhone or iPad.
A lot of people may not know this but if you have an Android phone or tablet you can transfer files to your Mac using Bluetooth however the speed is very slow and can take several hours to transfer the data wirelessly.
For Android or Windows users
For Windows users the only option is Bluetooth which again is very slow and not ideal to use when you have to transfer large files over 300MB in size. Therefore the only option to transfer wirelessly will be to use an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or wetranfer or other file transferring services which will use up your WiFi or Mobile Data.
The only logical option is to take that old USB cable and plug it into your phone/tablet and laptop, if you try using your phone you could mess things up and you would have to start all over again.
For wireless File transfer Apple is the WINNER
Preinstalled Free Software
When it comes to Software Apple comes with a lot of free software to get you started right out of the box. No limited trials just free to use for life.
Apple's Built in Software
- Pages - Pages is a writer software that can be used to write notes or create professional documents and then be exported to a Word, PDF, ePub instantly. Its Apples version of Microsoft Word
- Keynote - Keynote can open powerpoint presentations and even edit them. The presentations created on keynote can be then exported to a Powerpoint, PDF, ePub instantly Its Apples version of Microsoft Powerpoint
- Numbers - Numbers can be used to create tables. However we found it to be only useful for small task and not for calculating and managing a large quantity of data entries and therefore we highly recommend Microsoft Excel
- iMovie - Built in Movie editor
- Photos - Photo editor
- Reminders - Allows you to add to do list and set reminders
- Notes - Allows you to write Notes and add images its Apples version of One Note
- Calendar
- iBooks - Electronic Books
- Facetime
- iMessage
Please Note that the software listed above is what a Windows PC does not come with out of the box. To get the same advantages that Apple gives you will have to separately purchase and download software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, One Note Etc.
For pre installed Free Software Apple is the winner
Android Users on the other hand still needs to install Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, One Note and as a result fails to compete in this area with Apple.
Gaming
When it comes to gaming Apple is a loser on the Mac. There are many reasons to this and if you are a gamer you will understand why a lot better than us. Sorry but we don't play games.
However we have tried Call of Duty and PUBG on an iPhone and we have to say it works quite well with no lagging. The only complaint is that the battery goes dead in just 30 minutes and iPhone gets very very hot at the back.
Windows PC are the best when it comes to gaming because there so many options available from the mouse to the keyboard. There are no limits to the level of customization.
For Gaming Windows is the winner.
As there are many Android devices that cant handle heavy gaming and since iPhones get too hot where the battery drains quickly they cant compete with a Windows PC.
Price
Apple is expensive. The only place where you can justify the price is if you are purchasing a Macbook Air where the Windows Laptop will be more expensive. However if we step back and look at all of Apples devices what a certain Android or Windows device will do for specific task Android and Windows is cheaper.
For price Windows and Android are the winners.
Longevity
Android devices tend to last for about two years before they are ruined by software updates however a Windows and Apples Devices can last for about six years while receiving the latest software updates.
A friend of ours purchased an iPhone in April 2019 and an Android tablet in September 2019. Right now the iPhone is still running buttery smooth whereas the Android Tablet is already lagging and slow.
For Longevity Apple and Windows are the Winners.
Conclusion
There are no winners or losers. It all depends on the user and his/her personal requirements. We use Apple, Windows and Android on a day to day basis and find all of them very useful. The debate online about Apple vs Android or Mac vs PC almost seems like a debate based on Ego, each individual attempting to justify why his/her product is better than what a friend or colleague has.
We look at these devices not based on the brand name but purely based on Functionality, Longevity, Synchronization and user friendly software.
